A JOURNEY THROUGH OUR HISTORY AND CULTURE 29.12.2015
English and History branches initiated an interdisciplinary activity for Grade 11 students to help them learn about their culture and civilisation. The students learned about their cultural and historical values, what museums are, why and how museums are visited, and how we can protect and develop our heritage.
Throughout the trip, Grade 11 students visited the Uşakizade Mansion (the house in which our leader Atatürk made many important decisions regarding the nation), the Clock Tower (built in 1901 and became the delicate and beautiful symbol of Izmir), the Asansör (built in 1907), the Konak Pier (designed and built in 1890 by the famous French architect and engineer Gustave Eiffel), and the Atatürk Museum (used as the headquarters of the Turkish Army in 1922, then used by Atatürk personally for the preparation of the Izmir Economic Congress in February 17th, 1923).
The students analysed the geographical and economic factors that had an impact of the establishment of Izmir from the past up to this day. They also had a chance to observe how the West inspired Izmir’s architecture since the beginning of the 20th century.
The students enjoyed learning through observation and expedition.
