EXPERIMENTATION AND INQUIRY 18.02.2021

In line with the unit “Where We are in Space and Time” and the main idea of “Science Helps Us Invent New Things”, ELC 3B students inquired into scientific facts through experimentation and learned that the inventions are developed according to our needs. Then, they decided to come up with an invention to solve a daily life problem. They brainstormed to find out daily life problems that students face and noticed that paper consumption is the most important issue. They realized that the paper in their classroom ran out too fast and inquired into different materials to use instead of paper. They tried to draw pictures on various materials and came up with creative ideas such as sticking leaves together with different methods, bringing stones together and writing on ice. In order to write on ince, they waited for the water to freeze and tried to write their names on it. They tried to draw pictures on leaves and stones after bringing them together. A group of students came up with an idea to design a machine to produce paper. Each student drew pictures of his/her design and presented it to others while the group, which wanted to design a machine to produce paper, designed a machine with lego bricks. Then, they enriched their design with materials such as boxes and lids. While realizing that the inventions are developed according to the needs of human beings, our students understood that the resources are valuable and need to be used carefully.
